The Institute without Boundaries has categorized the basic elements of housing design into twelve systems, which can be further grouped into the categories of terrain, climate, economy and culture. In every project, these elements combine and integrate to generate designs that promote the long-term health of all species and cultures.
This Matrix provides a framework for generating innovative ideas and auditing the quality of the final product. The Institute uses the Matrix pri-marily for housing design challenges, although it can be adapted to suit other scenarios.
