Institute Without Boundaries
Markham, Ontario has attracted many top companies in the technology industry and is home to a thriving business economy. This forward-thinking community now sees the opportunity to enhance this success by catering to their educated and creative residents while building economic diversity in the creative business sector. In the future, Markham may be known as “Canada’s Creative Capital” as well as it’s “High-Tech Capital”. By supporting avenues for crative social innovation, Markham is seeking to support creative entrepreneurs and help these new businesses to thrive.
This charrette will investigate the potential the town has to develop and nurture the creative sector, taking advantage of several existing sites close to amentities such as restaurants, cafes, shopping and convenient transit. Working in teams, students will propose building designs and programs that facilitate creative and innovative ways of working for freelancers and small start-ups in Markham.
We are no longer accepting new participants for this charrette, however we are actively seeking guest advisors, especially from fields including Architecture, Social Innovation and other Design fields. If you are interested in volunteering as an advisor please click here to download the advisor information sheet.
Interdisciplinary teams will include George Brown students from the Institute without Boundaries and Architectural Technology. Faculty and industry experts from a variety of backgrounds in sustainable design, urban planning, business and social innovation will also be involved and provide critical support and feedback.
